Box Office Battle: 'Angel Has Fallen' looks to win weak holiday weekend

Welcome to "Box Office Battle," The Fly's weekly preview projecting what the top films will be at the box office this weekend.

ANGEL HAS FALLEN LOOKS TO KEEP TOP SPOT: Lionsgate (LGF.A, LGF.B) and Millennium's "Angel Has Fallen," the action film sequel to "Olympus has Fallen" and "London has Fallen," all of which star Gerard Butler, is expected to again take the top spot this weekend, the film's second at theaters, with a domestic three-day gross of ~$12M and a four-day holiday weekend gross of ~$15M.

EXPECTED TOP FIVE MOSTLY UNCHANGED: Comcast (CMCSA, CMCSK) subsidiary Universal's R-rated comedy "Good Boys," Disney's (DIS) live-action remake of "The Lion King," and Universal's "Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw," are expected to finish second through fourth, with the only new addition to the top five being Sony (SNE) and AFFIRM's faith-based drama "Overcomer," which is forecast to finish in fifth place this Labor Day weekend.

IT COMING NEXT WEEKEND: Next weekend, AT&T (T) subsidiary Warner Bros.' "It: Chapter Two" will look to kick off the Fall movie season with a strong opening, with Deadline projecting a gross in the range of $95M–120M for the horror film's opening weekend.

  • Angel has Fallen: $12M/$15M
  • Good Boys: $10M/$12M
  • The Lion King: $8M/$10M
  • Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw: $7M/$9M
